This week so far I’ve posted my Top fiction books of the year posts (Counting down from 40 to 21, and the Top 20!) and so today it’s time for my favourite nonfiction reads of 2019! I read 91 nonfiction books in 2019 and these are the top 10 books that have stayed with me!
Click on the book titles if you’d like to read my review 🙂
I Carried a Watermelon: Dirty Dancing and Me by Katy Brand
Meditation for Children by Shelley Wilson
The Dark Side of the Mind by Kerry Daynes
Trauma by Gordon Turnbull
The Point of Poetry by Joe Nutt
Breaking and Mending by Joanna Cannon
After the Eclipse by Sarah Perry
The Five: The Untold Stories of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
You have some excellent books listed, thanks for sharing your 2019 favourites!
Thank you so much 🙂
I must check out Becoming, I’ve seen it on so many peoples top reads. You’ve got a great collection of books here!
Becoming is such a good read, I found it fascinating. I recommend the audio book if you like listening to books as Michelle Obama narrates it herself. I hope you get to read it this year and that you enjoy it as much as I did.
I really must get around to reading Becoming. It’s been sitting on my bookshelf for more than a year!
It’s such a brilliant book, I hope you get to read it soon.
A nice group of books here, Hayley! And you’ve reminded me of how much I want to read the Rubenhold (which I still haven’t got to). I’m glad for the reminder.
Thank you 🙂 I hope you get to read The Five this year, it really is an excellent book. I’m in awe of the amount of research that Rubenhold must have had to do in order to tell these stories.
The Point of Poetry is still calling to me! I may have to splurge with my book token!
I hope you get to read it and that you enjoy it as much as I did. It’s a book that gave me back the confidence to read poetry again, and it made me re-read some poems that I’d hated at school and I found a love for them.
Dopesick was one of my favorites last year too, as were After the Eclipse and The Five. I’m excited for The Dark Side of the Mind after your recommendation, and The Point of poetry sounds so good too!!
All of those books were incredible reads! I’m so glad I finally got to read After the Eclipse, it’s a book that is really staying with me. I hope you get to read The Dark Side of the Mind and that you enjoy it as much as I did. The Point of Poetry is wonderful, it gave me back the confidence to read poetry collections again.
That’s so good to know about The Point of Poetry! After the Eclipse really stayed with me too.
I really do need to read Becoming this year!
It’s an excellent memoir, I hope you get to read it and that you enjoy it as much as I did.
Fab list, Hayley! You are my go-to for nonfiction and you always give me new book options in this genre! I hope to finally read Becoming this year! ♥️
Thank you so much, that’s really lovely to hear. I hope you get to read Becoming this year, it really is an excellent memoir.
I’m hoping to read more non-fiction in 2020. Becoming is one I definitely want to read!
I hope you get to read more nonfiction this year. Becoming is such a good read, I definitely recommend it! 🙂
I have to request I Carried a Watermelon from my library. I wanted to read that one and seeing it here reminds me!
I hope you manage to get I Carried a Watermelon from the library, it’s such a fun and nostalgic read. 🙂
