Weekly Wrap-Up (15 May)

Weekly Wrap up SQUARE copyrighted

I’m linking this post up to Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer’s Sunday Blog Share.

It’s been quite a rough week this week and I’m still recovering from it but I wanted to try to get my wrap-up post up on time. I had my appointment with the pain specialist earlier this week, it went ok but there isn’t an easy answer. For now, I’ve had some injections into my spine which I’m hoping will help but they’ve initially caused a flare up of pain. It was horrible for the first three days but I feel slightly more human today. I’ve been told to rest as much as I can so I’m trying to be good!

As a result of all of this I’ve not been around much this week. I had posts scheduled so they’ve gone out as planned but I’ve not been able to read blogs like I normally do, or to comment and share so I apologise if I’ve missed any important news. Please leave links to your posts in my comments if there’s something I’ve not seen that you think I would enjoy reading. I hope to catch up in the next few days. Thank you to all of you who have read, liked, commented or shared my posts despite me not reciprocating – I appreciate it so much.

This week I’ve managed to finish reading three books:

  1. Sorry to hear that you have been in so much pain. I hope these injections kick in soon, I have had a flare up after a few of mine but some have also helped for a brief time. Living with constant pain is not easy. Please look after yourself. Enjoy reading. I’m aiming to catch up in reviews today. X

    • Thank you. The flare from the injection has finally settled but my normal pain is still as bad but I’m still trying to be hopeful that it might help. I’m so behind with blogging with not having doing anything for the last week – I’m planning to get caught up on replying to comments today and then to start on preparing some more posts. I hope you managed to catch up on some reviews this week and that you’re as ok as possible. xx

  2. I really hope the injections work. Be a very good girl: rest and take care of yourself!
It’s been a slow week for me. Insomnia came back. As a result, my brain just didn’t want to work so I barely posted anything. But I was relieved to finish my review of The Sister, after three very long and absolutely not productive days. I finished Black Widow, which was another great read but will be a pain to review. Now is time for some lighter reads! I received The Little French Guesthouse earlier and I cannot wait to read it. The French in me is very curious about the setting and the image of French people reflected in the book. I am at my mother in a tiny village, far from any urban distraction, which leaves me with even more reading time.
    Happy reading! 🙂 xx

    • Haha! It feels like you know me so well already – I’m terrible at doing what I’m told when it comes to resting! Seriously though I have been careful the last week as the flare from that injection has forced me to as it has been horrible. It’s finally settled down a bit now but my normal pain is still as bad as ever. I’m sorry that you’re insomnia has been so bad, I don’t sleep well at all either so I know how rubbish it is. I hope it settles down soon. Well done on managing to get your review written, it’s always a good feeling to get one written after a few days of not being able to get things done. I hope you’re enjoying reading The Little French Guesthouse, it sounds like a perfect relaxing summer read. I also hope you’re enjoying being away, it sounds lovely. Happy reading to you too! 🙂 xx

      • Resting is one of the hardest things to do! 🙂 I don’t like it much. I really hope the effects of the injection kick in soon. xx

        • I’m rubbish at resting – so much so that my physio is now trying to sell it to me as part of my therapy meaning I have to do it but I’m still struggling. I know I’m never going to recover from this but at the same time I don’t want to behave like an ill person, does that make sense? I’m sorry that you have to rest too, it’s hard. x

          • It totally makes sense, I get what you mean. It is a struggle to find the right balance between staying true to your character (and I bet you, just like me, have never been friend with rest time!) and adjusting to a situation. I admire you for not giving in, it would be easier to just go with the flow and act the ‘ill person’ part, but I hope you’ll find a compromise so that you don’t feel trapped but manage to get the rest your body needs. xx

          • Exactly! I just always want to get the most out of life, I don’t want to waste time resting but I guess what I have to adapt to is that my condition means I need to rest in order to have a good life. I just need to get used to it. It would be easier to behave like an ill person but it’s just not in me to give in, I want to be focused on healthy people and trying my best to still get on in life. I’m sure I’ll find balance eventually, there has just been so much to adapt to over the last year and I’m still coming to terms with it. Thank you. xx

          • The process takes time, so on top of resting, you need to give yourself time to digest it all 🙂 I am sure you’ll find the balance you need. xx

  3. Really sorry you’ve had a rough week – hope the coming week will be a lot better. You’re amazing the way you keep reading and reviewing despite being in pain. I’ve just read We are all Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler which is the best book I’ve read for a while. I just love the author’s voice – humorous and insightful – as well as telling a very thought-provoking story. Go well xx

    • Thank you, I’m starting to feel more human again now. I schedule my blog in advance so I write most of my posts in blocks and then I can rest on some days. I wouldn’t be able to blog every day anymore as the pain is too much, it really did make the difference for me when I learnt how to schedule. I loved We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves too, it was such a great book. It stayed with me for a long time after I read it. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. xx

  4. Sorry to hear you’ve had a rough week. I hope you get answers soon and start feeling better even sooner! Tapestry’s cover is gorgeous…adding to my TBR now. I had a slow reading week myself. I just finished Admiral by Sean Danker. It was good, but had a slow pace. I made myself finish it. Hope you have a better week this week!

    Here’s my Sunday Post.

  5. Spine injections do not sound fun- I hope they kick in though and give some relief. I see a few reviews I want to go read, and those A-Z book tags look fun too. I hope your week ahead is a good one. 🙂

    • They weren’t very nice at all – I’m just hoping that they’ll prove to be helpful and then it’ll have been worth it. Feel free to join in with the A-Z tag. I enjoyed putting my post together and it’s fun reading everyone else’s posts and finding out more about people. Hope you’re having a good week too. 🙂

  6. Thinking of you – and hoping that the relief the injection is due to bring will start VERY soon:(. I loved your A-Z book tag this week and am impressed that you managed to complete a full week of blogging, despite your problems. Take care.

    • Thank you so much. The flare from the injections has finally worn off but my normal pain is still as bad, I’m hoping the injections effects will kick in soon. I’m glad you enjoyed reading my A-Z tag, I loved answering the questions. Have you joined in with it? I did most of my blogging in advance for the last week or two so I haven’t been around much, I’m trying to cut my computer time right down for a while. It’s definitely helpful to allow blocks of time for blogging and then to have time away. Hope you’re having a good week.

      • No, I haven’t – not yet. I’m massively behind with everything this week, but hoping to catch up at the week-end when it should get a bit quieter:). In the meantime, I completely understand with your having breaks from the computer and hoping you get some break from the pain very soon.

  7. Sorry to read that you’ve been in pain. I’ve only just started following you this week, and I didn’t notice that a certain personal touch was missing, so I think your coverage for the week was pretty damn good! Flare-ups after treatment are unfortunately usually part of the package. If the length of time you’re down for the count doesn’t trend downward, and if you don’t see improvement once the flare-up is over, it can be a sign that the treatment doesn’t help, at least currently. Unfortunately it usually takes 2 or 3 treatments before you can tell if it’s going to be helpful in the long run. Best of luck!

    • Thank you for following my blog and for commenting. This was my first time having the injections so it’s trial and error at the moment – so far it hasn’t helped at all but the flare they caused has settled at least. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
