WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. It’s open for anyone to join in and is a great way to share what you’ve been reading!
My reading has taken a bit of a backseat over the last week as my husband and I finally started watching The Sopranos and it is taking over our lives! We’ve both wanted to watch it ever since it was first on but somehow have never got around to it until now. He’s going back to work soon so we wanted to make a start on watching this before he went back. I’ve also been quite poorly ever since my vaccine a couple of weeks ago so binge watching a TV show has been perfect while I’m recovering.
Current Reads
One Last Time by Helga Flatland
I only started reading this one last night but I can already tell that I’m going to love it. It’s such a realistic and moving portrayal of mother daughter relationships. I can’t wait to read more!
This Lovely City by Louise Hare
I got this audiobook via the Borrowbox app and I’m really enjoying it. I’d heard only good things about it before I borrowed it so I’ve been keen to get to it.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This is another great book that I’m very much enjoying. It tells the story of four siblings in 1982, and the story of their parents in the late 50s onwards. At the moment I’m more invested in the story of the parents but I’m so keen to see where the novel is going!
Recent Reads
How to be Broken by Dr Emma Kavanagh
This book is incredible and I highly recommend it. It’s a nonfiction book looking at how stress and trauma affects our way of thinking but how our ‘broken brains’ have potential for post traumatic growth. I found this book so helpful and reassuring and it’s helped me understand some of my own behaviours better than anything I’ve read in a really long time. I’ll be reviewing this once I’ve got my thoughts into some kind of order.
The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex
I borrowed the audiobook of this via Borrowbox and I really enjoyed it. I’ve kept seeing the book around and have been so intrigued by it so I’m glad I finally read it. It’s intriguing and tense, and now I want to know more about the real life story that inspired it.
Five Strangers by E. V. Adamson
This novel follows two women in the aftermath of a murder that one is a witness too. The premise of this book sounded so good but the novel was actually about something different so I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I hoped I would.
What I Might Read Next
The Killing Kind by Jane Casey
The Murder of Graham Catton by Katie Lowe
The Outsiders by James Corbett
I’m still predominantly reading my NetGalley books in publication order but with a couple of other review books mixed in so this week I hope to read the next two on NG and a book from Eye and Lightning that I got recently and am keen to read this month. I’m not reading quite as much at the moment with not being well but hopefully I’ll be back to full speed soon.
I’m almost finished with Malibu Rising… Hm… very interesting.
It took me a little while to get into Malibu Rising but I’m enjoying it now. Are you not enjoying it?
Just finished it. I enjoyed it VERY much, but… Daisy Jones is still my favorite of hers so far…
I just started The Killing Kind yesterday. An intriguing start and I’ll be interested to see what you think.

It’s good to know The Killing Kind grabbed you from the start. I’m really looking forward to starting it. 🙂
Sorry you had a bad reaction to the vaccine Hayley hope you recover really quickly! xx
Thank you, I’m getting there. I was just very unlucky as was unwell immediately after having it and then a week later I got an infection as a result of the injection. Just finished my antibiotics today so hopefully I’ll be feeling more human again in the next couple of days. xx
Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly after your vaccine, I have a local friend who has an autoimmune disease and has been struggling. Well done for having it and I hope you feel better soon.
Good books there, nice and compulsive reading! I’m in the middle of “Tension” by E.M. Delafield, a novel about the war between a college superintendent and the head funder’s wife, which is very well done, and “Perfect City” by Joe Berridge, which is about town planning and the oldest book on my Kindle, plus “Burning Books” which I’m reading for the Wolfson Prize. All very different! Next up, not sure as I will have fulfilled all my obligations for the month but have two books from Dean Street Press that come out early June and SIX NetGalley June releases …
Thank you. I had a reaction straight after having the vaccine and was ill for a week. Then I got an infection at the injection site so needed antibiotics. I’m finally feeling human again now though. I’m still so glad I had it done.
Tension sounds very good, I’ll look out for your review of that one. It sounds like you have a lot of books to read for June, I hope you’re getting on okay with them.
I’ve started The Other Black Girl and I cannot put it down!
I keep hearing about that book and really want to read it.
Oh you will love it. I think it’s still available on NetGalley if you’re quick.
I missed it on NetGalley so I’ve added it to my list for when I next do some book buying.
So many tempting books! I have had my eye on Malibu Rising.
Enjoy, and here’s MY WWW POST
Malibu Rising was really good, I recommend it.
It makes me happy you’re enjoying Malibu Rising. I loved that book so much!
I loved Malibu Rising, I finished a few days ago now and still keep thinking about it.
I hope you feel better soon Hayley. I’m sorry to hear you have reacted to your vaccine. I enjoy Jane Casey’s books but am so far behind. I hope you enjoy whatever you pick up next. I have not watched the Sopranos either, maybe I should try a couple of episodes to see if I like it.
Thank you, I’m starting to feel much better now. The Killing Kind is a standalone by Jane Casey so you could read it. I haven’t started her series yet but have quite a few of them on my TBR.
I have read two of her books and enjoyed them, but I read them out of order. I want to go back and read the ones I missed, but wish there was more time in the day. I am glad you are feeling somewhat better, Hayley.
Thank you, I’m feeling much better now. I know the feeling about needing more hours in the day for all the books we want to read.
I’m glad you’re liking Malibu Rising more than I did. I liked the children’s relationship, but didn’t like the parents’ story – Mick ruined the whole book for me!
It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy Malibu Rising – I know what you mean about Mick but I still loved getting to know all the characters.
Some great books on your list again this week! My www post is here: http://wordywitterings.com/2021/05/19/www-wednesday-wednesday-19th-may-2021/
Thank you 🙂 I’m really behind with replying to comments and reading other blogs at the moment but I’ll go read your post now.
Malibu Rising is definitely catching my eye. Can’t wait to hear more about it ❤️ Happy reading!
Malibu Rising is so good, I loved it. I hope to get my review up later this week but I definitely recommend it. 🙂
I hope you will feel better soon! I can’t wait to get a copy of Malibu Rising as I love her writing. Happy reading!
Thank you, I’m feeling better now. 🙂 Malibu Rising is fab, I loved it. x
